Group of minerals that contain several elements that are metallic the nitrate radical (NO3). These minerals are all soft and fragile. With one exclusion, they have been all dissolvable in water, and generally are therefore found only in arid regions or in caves, and especially in dry lake deposits. The nitrates certainly are a small group and are sometimes classified as being a sub-category of the group that is the carbonate.
